Gifts with a date
Retirement gifts for pilots and cabin crew: their last day at the hub
For someone who spent a career at one airport, a fitting retirement gift is that airport on their last working day: every flight drawn as a line, the date beneath, and a line of your own for the years they flew. Their last flight is one of the lines.

Their airport, on their last day
Pilots and cabin crew spend years leaving from and coming back to the same airport. By the end of a career they know its runways, its departure routes and its weather better than anyone, so the most personal gift is often the airport itself, on the day it all ended.
Choose their home airport and their last working day. We draw every take-off of that day as a line along the path it really flew, from the runway to the edge of a frame about 120 km tall, and colour each one by how long the flight lasted. Their last flight is one of those lines, among all the others that day: a picture of the whole operation they were part of. How a day of flights becomes a print explains how it is made.
Departures, arrivals or both
A last trip usually ends at home base, so think about which way their last flight went:
- Departures if the last flight left from the hub, on the way out to its final destination.
- Arrivals if it brought them home. The print then draws every flight that landed that day, theirs among them.
- Both for the whole day in and out, if their last day was a series of short trips from and back to base.
Not only for pilots
The same gift fits anyone whose working life was an airport: flight attendants and pursers, air traffic controllers, engineers, dispatchers, ground handlers, firefighters, and the people who run the terminal. For a controller, the picture is very nearly their work made visible: the departure routes they cleared aircraft onto, all day, every day.
What to write
Under the airport's code and name there is room for a line of up to 60 characters:
- Captain R. Hayes, last flight after 34 years
- Thank you for 28 years of safe landings
- Last day on the line. Blue skies, Jo
- From everyone in the crew room
A gift from the whole crew room
One pack is enough for a group gift. The largest print file is sharp at 60 × 90 cm, big enough to frame with a wide mount for everyone to sign around the picture. The pack also has a phone wallpaper and a desktop one, so the retiree can keep the day on their screens too. Our guide to poster sizes and frames helps you choose a frame.
The files are for personal use and gifts. An airline or airport that wants prints for a team, a retirement scheme or an event can write to us about a custom order.
Timing it
We can only draw a day once it is over and its flight data is complete, so a print of the last day can't be ready for a leaving party held before it. Give it afterwards, framed, or choose a day that has already happened: their last flight as captain on a favourite route, or the day of their final trip to a city they flew to for years. Our calendar starts in late September 2025.
Questions
What is a good retirement gift for an airline pilot?
Something tied to their career rather than another model aircraft. A print of their home base on their last working day, with every flight of that day drawn and a line about the years they flew, is personal to them and works as a gift from a whole crew room.
Will the print show their actual last flight?
It shows every departure, or every arrival, at the airport that day, and their flight is one of them. It is not highlighted; the date and your line are what tie the print to them.
Can I order it before their last day?
No. We can only draw a day once it is over and its flight data is complete. Give it after the last flight, or choose an earlier day that matters, such as their last trip as captain on a favourite route.
Can colleagues sign it?
Yes. Print it large, up to 60 × 90 cm, and frame it with a wide mount everyone can sign around the picture.
Is their home airport included?
We cover 385 airports, including the main hubs and bases of most large airlines. You can search the list on our prints page.
