Gifts with a date
Personalised aviation gifts: their airport, on a day that matters
Someone who loves planes usually has the model aircraft and the mugs already. What they don't have is something only they could own: their airport on a day that meant something to them, every flight of it drawn, with a line from you underneath.

What makes an aviation gift personal
The usual aviation gifts are easy to find and easy to forget: a model of a plane they have flown, an airport code on a mug, a book about the jet age. A gift feels personal when it could only be for them, and for someone who loves planes the most personal thing is usually an airport. It is the one they grew up near, the one they fly home to, the one they work at, or the one they left from on the trip they still talk about.
A print of that airport on a day that mattered to them does what a model plane can't: it holds a memory. Every take-off of the day is drawn as a line along the path it really flew, so the picture is the real sky of that day, not a design. How a day of flights becomes a print explains where the lines come from.
Choosing the day
The day is what makes it theirs. Some that work well:
- A trip: the day they left on a honeymoon, a gap year or the holiday of a lifetime, or the day they came home. For a first wedding anniversary, see the paper anniversary gift.
- A move: the day someone flew off to a new life abroad. There is more on that in a gift for someone moving abroad.
- A working life: a first day or a last day for a pilot, a flight attendant, an air traffic controller or anyone who works at an airport. See retirement gifts for pilots and cabin crew.
- A family day: the day a baby was born, drawn at the family's home airport, or the day a grandparent flew in to meet them.
- No date at all: their home airport on any ordinary day is still their airport. Pick a recent one, or the day they last flew from it.
Our calendar starts in late September 2025 and covers 385 airports. A day has to have happened, and its flight data has to be complete, before it can be printed, and only days our receivers saw in full can be chosen.
What to write on it
Under the airport's code and name there is room for a line of your own, up to 60 characters. Keep it short enough to read from across a room:
- For Sam, who never misses a window seat
- Welcome home, Dad
- Our first flight as a family
- Gran flew in to meet Lily
You can also change the name under the code. It shows the city by default, but it can say anything up to 28 characters: a nickname for the airport, or simply "Home".
Last-minute, and nothing to post
The gift is a set of files, not a parcel. After you pay we draw the pack in under a minute and email you a link to it: four print files for the common frame shapes, and wallpapers for a phone and a desktop. You can forward the link with a message, or print the poster and frame it first. Our guide to poster sizes and frames helps you choose a size.
Every print carries a small QR code in the corner. Scanned with a phone, it opens the day's own page, where the whole day replays flight by flight, so the person you give it to can watch the sky it came from.
Gifts that go with it
A print sits well beside an experience. A few that suit someone who loves planes, two of them our own apps:
- A day of plane spotting. Well Spotted shows which runway an airport is using, when the rare aircraft are due and where the light will be, so a trip to the fence is worth the drive.
- A better window seat. Flymap downloads a flight's route before boarding, so they can follow the plane over mountains and coastlines with no Wi-Fi.
- A session in a flight simulator. Many simulator centres sell an hour at the controls of an airliner, with an instructor in the right-hand seat.
- A ticket to an air show or an aviation museum, for a day out among the aircraft themselves.
Questions
What is a good gift for someone who loves planes?
Something personal they could not buy for themselves, such as a print of their home airport on a day that mattered to them, with every flight of that day drawn and a line of your own beneath it. Experiences work well too, like a plane-spotting trip or a session in a flight simulator.
Can I choose any date for the print?
Any day in our calendar, which starts in late September 2025, that our receivers saw in full. Days are added once their flight data is complete, so a day has to have happened before you can choose it.
Can I add a personal message?
Yes. You can write a line of up to 60 characters under the airport's name, and change the name itself if you like.
How quickly does it arrive?
We draw the pack in under a minute after you pay, and email you the link to the files. There is nothing to ship, so it works as a last-minute gift; you print the files yourself, at home or at a print shop.
Which airports can I choose?
385 airports around the world, from the biggest hubs to busy regional airports. Small airfields are not included, because their few flights don't make a picture.
